CASSIE KINOSHI’S SEED ENSEMBLE
Combining jazz with inner-city London, West African and Caribbean influenced groove, SEED’s line-up is packed with London’s fresh new talent.
Formed in early 2016, SEED Ensemble is a ten-piece band led by alto saxophonist and composer Cassie Kinoshi, the recent recipient of the 2019 Breakthrough Act OF The Year at the Jazz FM awards.
The project presents a stellar line-up featuring some of London’s most up-and-coming young jazz musicians including tuba player Theon Cross and tenor saxophonist Chelsea Carmichael.
Combining jazz with inner-city London, West African and Caribbean influenced groove, SEED explores a blend of genres through both original compositions and arrangements. Their debut album Driftglass was released by the Jazz Re:freshed label earlier this year and features the track Afronaut which won the British Composer Award 2018 (BASCA) for Jazz Composition for Large Ensemble.
